A genuine mountaineering hike, for hikers with strong lungs and legs of steel! With a total climb in altitude of more than 900m, this route is not for amateurs. The fatigue is great, but the reward is unparalleled! The most strenuous part is the first 1,9km leg of the hike, which is a steep ascent on the east side of the Zastano peak, from the starting point of the path at an altitude of 580m, up to the top, which is at an altitude of 1,185m. The next part, from Zastano peak to the summit of Vigla is the most enjoyable, with a gentle incline and a majestic view, as far as the eye can see. The descent from the summit of Vigla to Monument doesn’t present any difficulties, but do take into account the amount of time you’ll need to return to your car at the starting point, following the forest road in a northern direction (4,5km, 1 hour and 15 minutes). You’ll find fresh cold spring water a few metres east of Profitis Elias chapel, and at the starting point of the path, at the monastery of Zoodochos Pigi.
