This trek is geared towards hikers in excellent physical condition! The total climb in altitude of more than 1450m and its great length (9.4 km) will challenge your physical endurance. It’s good to get an early start, and choose a day with a cool northern breeze. You’ll find water in the monastery of Evangelistria (11th century) and a little due east of the chapel of Profitis Elias, but it’s imperative to have as much water with you as you can carry. A section of the hike, from the starting point of the path to a little higher than the monastery, is under the shade of the thick pine forest, but the remaining hike is in open field, completely exposed to the sun, so you definitely need a hat and clothes with good sunscreen protection. You can opt for a shorter and less exhausting hike if you drive the first leg of the route, about 4 km, first on asphalt and then on dirt road (a 4WD is required), and then begin your hike at the trailhead, which is at an altitude of about 450m above sea level. From the top, most hikers choose to return to Votsalakia by retracing their steps.
